The United Nations Headquarters in New York by Brazilian Oscar Niemeyer is an uplifting experience. Especially the feeling of stepping into the General Assembly Hall for the first time is something I will never forget. All the nations sitting in the same room!

I spent three weeks touring the US and New York was our last stop. The UN HQ was the perfect finale for our trip. I immediately noticed the numerous beautiful chairs the building had. When you need lobbying and informal negoziations, you need places to sit.  Talking about design as diplomacy, all you need is to give peace a chair. 

Oscar Niemeyerin suunnittelema YK:n päämaja on huikea kompleksi. Rakennus ja varsinkin yleisistuntojen sali General Assembly Hall on kohottava kokemus – koko maailma istuu samassa huoneessa. 

Pitkän USA:n kiertueemme viimeinen kohde oli YK:n päämaja New Yorkissa. En voinut olla kiinnittämättä huomiota päämajan tuoleihin. Diplomacy as design. Paikassa, jossa päätöksiä valmistellaan ja sopimuksia tunnustellaan epävirallisissa tapaamisissa koko ajan, on pakko olla hyvät tuolit.
